Local Economy
Another way to develop communities is to enhance their economy. CMIC has implemented several projects, one of which is below:

  • Community canteen :CMIC has provided opportunities for locals to generate income through selling their food and soft drinks in CMIC’s community canteen at the Touk Meas Plant. Their customers are the drivers and staff working in the plant. The sellers are rotated on an annual basis.

Seeing the potentials of improved science education for the development of the country, Chip Mong Insee Cement has collaborated with 10 high schools in Kampot Province to set up science clubs to improve students’ science knowledge, and prepare them for their upcoming high school exam and higher education. Supporting science education also aligns with the government’s education policy in promoting STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

First Batch of Chip Mong Insee Scholarship Grantees
After a series of a selection process, finally, 12 Chip Mong Insee scholarship grantees have been selected. They are doing a five-year Bachelor degree of Science-Engineering related programs in various higher education institutions in Cambodia. They are warmly welcome to the company’s management team. Big congratulations to them!

Promoting Quality Education is part of Chip Mong Insee Cement Corporation’s (CMIC) Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Strategy. It aligns very well with the fourth goal in United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Agenda, which is Quality Education. Along with other social development programs, CMIC has launched Chip Mong Insee Scholarship, aiming to help outstanding yet poor students from Kampot province to fulfill their dream of pursuing higher education. With the collaboration of local authorities, CMIC has supported various social and cultural events through pagodas and commune & district offices in Kampot Province. CMIC has also taken the initiative to preserve and renovate a colonial kiln, known as Lor Dob, located some 3 kms from the plant.

Clean and green schools not only create a positive learning environment but are also good for communities as a whole. In light of this, CMIC has implemented various activities to support them:

  • Sanitation :CMIC has repaired and built toilets for communities and public institutions.
  • WaSH package for schools :CMIC has partnered with “Clear Cambodia”, an NGO specialising in clean water, hygiene and sanitation, to build WaSH facilities for schools, including BioSand Filter Systems, latrines, handwashing stations and trash incinerators.
  • Distribution of eco-waste bins & environmental training :CMIC has provided eco-waste bins to schools and provided basic environmental training to young students to raise awareness about the importance of taking greater care of the environment.
